I began creating Before in 2013 and worked on it at Facepunch until the project was cancelled in January 2019.

The game started out as an experiment with low poly art and Unity's (then very new and exciting) post-processing stack. Back in 2014, this now widely explored combination of simple geometry and modern rendering was quite novel!

While working at Facepunch I lead a small team building a highly detailed simulation, based around Utility-style AI. We built our own Entity Component System (long before Unity announced their own data-oriented framework) and all of our AI systems from the ground up.

Ultimately, the scope of the project was beyond our capabilities and while the game was playable, we weren't able to realise the vision I had for it.
